Technical Director / Dev Ops Engineer

Mount Pleasant, Vancouver, BC, Canada

Mission:

The Technical Director is a core member of the systems team primarily responsible for designing, maintaining Distillery’s local data center including environmental conditions, network infrastructure, servers, and storage. You will be the key driver of implementing and improving existing Windows-based infrastructure, as well as integrating and maintaining various third-party systems, products, hardware, software, and workflow for maintenance of operations.

 

Objective:

  • Create our Technical Strategy and Roadmap across multiple projects, leading core engineering infrastructure and project code strategy to deliver great products, tools, and systems.

  • Maintain network services including Windows Server, SCCM, Office365, Azure, Isilon, QNAP, AWS, and FortiGate firewalls.

  • Foster an agile mindset and an environment of constant learning so that Distillery VFX is at the forefront of innovation.

  • Elevate Distillery VFX’s technical presence and involvement in key external events that focus on technology.

  • Design and maintain technical documentation, manuals, IT policies and tools to maintain a Windows environment.

  • Design and build an upgrade policy with new software releases and hardware models

  • Embrace our agile development processes and be a product steward for key engineering initiatives at the studio.

Education & Experience:

  • Driving technical innovation and best practices in a technical leadership role, preferably in a scaling VFX studio or start up environment across multiple projects.

  • Proven experience as a Technical Director, System Administrator, Network Administrator, or similar role in Windows environment

  • Assessing gaps in technology foundation and articulating, advocating, and implementing programs to improve architecture, systems, and processes.

  • A passion and curiosity for creating and delivering reusable and high performant technology solutions for creative teams.

  • Excellent understanding of Microsoft products, including Microsoft Exchange, Office 365 admin, SCCM, Azure, Windows Active Directory User and Computer Administration is required.

  • Experience managing engineering projects, timelines, and staffing plans.

  • Heavy background in scripting/programming in Python, PowerShell, or another scripting language.

  • Partnering across internal and external stakeholders including the Executive team, studio, and publishers to develop and execute technical plans.

  • College diploma or degree in IT, CS, or related discipline

  • High level Professional certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), ITIL, Cisco)
