Matthew Lane

MATTHEW LANE
VFX Supervisor / Compositing Supervisor

Starting his career 2002, Matthew worked his way through the VFX pipeline as both a 3D Artist and later as a Compositor for film and television across a variety of local and global companies.

In 2011, Matt joined Industrial Light + Magic as a Compositor, and rose the ranks as a Lead Compositor, Compositing Supervisor, and Associate Visual Effects Supervisor.

He has played key roles in growing companies and delivering high-end visual effects for film, allowing him to be an active member of VES and Oscar Nominated teams.

As a VFX Supervisor, Matt is primarily focused on post work for streaming content from Netflix, AMC, and HBO.

VFX Supervisor / Virtual Production Supervisor

Greg began his career in special media marketing campaigns for architectural projects, moving into the entertainment sector at Blur Studio where he supervised 3d animation-based projects including commercials and video game cinematics for AAA franchises.  

Joining Industrial Light + Magic in the spring of 2013, Greg moved to Vancouver as part of ILM’s new studio expansion there where he worked as a CG Supervisor and Vancouver's Generalist Head of Department, Associate VFX Supervisor, and VFX Supervisor for Joseph Kosinski’s Only the Brave, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and Disney’s Aladdin.  

Recently Greg was on set for Season 2 of The Mandalorian, supervising VFX and groundbreaking real-time virtual production work.

Valdone Koronczi

Head of Production

Originally from Lithuania, Valda started her VFX career in London, UK as a runner at DNEG in 2010. After about 6 months of laminating shot boards and running drives between offices she started as a production assistant on the movie Paul. She then went on to become a production coordinator and line producer working on various projects like John Carter, Dark Knight Rises, Man of Steel, In The Heart of the Sea and Terminator Genisys at DNEG London.

 

She moved to Vancouver in 2016 to help open DNEG’s first Canadian Office and was promoted to Production Manager. Once DNEG departmentalized their offices, Valda took on a Shot Finishing Department Manager role which involved looking after all the ENV/GEN, Lighting and COMP artists in the Vancouver studio.
 

After that position she went on to become a Central Production Manager and helped open DNEG TV Vancouver division. In 2019 Valda went on to manage the biggest project DNEG Vancouver had taken up to this point – Dune. Most recently Valda was working as a Producer. She brings over a decade of production experience to the Distillery team.

Jon Mitchell

JON MITCHELL
VFX Supervisor / Head of Environments

Originally from Halifax, Jon moved to the west coast of Canada in 2008 to continue his career in visual effects, moving from freelance for commercials and music videos to feature film work.

With over a decade of experience in feature films, Jon has worked on over 25 movies, including notable franchises: Star Wars, Jurassic World, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He specializes in generalist workflows, from creating high end digital environments to rigid body FX simulations.

A Frantic Films and ScanlineVFX alum, Jon joined Industrial Light + Magic in 2014 as a Generalist Artist and has spent the past four years as a Generalist Supervisor for ILM’s environment team.

In 2016, Jon was the recipient of the Visual Effects Society Award for Best Digital Environment in a Feature Film for his work on Dr. Strange.

Troy Tyler

Chief Technical Officer

Troy Tyler holds a degree in Engineering Physics from Simon Fraser University. He started his career straight out of university working in practical visual effects and animatronics at SFX studio before moving to Kodak, formally Creo Inc, as a design engineer. Troy designed the laser control hardware for Kodak’s most advanced thermal imaging head at the time, as well as the safety system for an LCD color filter machine. 

Troy has spent the last 10 years working at General Fusion Inc. pursuing fusion innovation primarily as lead diagnostician for the plasma compression team. He designed and implemented several key plasma diagnostics including a photon Doppler velocimetry system capable of measuring speeds of greater than 13km/s with 50ns timing resolution.
 

Troy also managed General Fusion’s field operations team of 30 professionals including PhD physicists, engineers, software specialists and explosive technicians to complete 17 successful plasma compression experiments. 


Troy brings a seasoned engineering mindset to the technology side of Distillery VFX to ensure our artists can deliver high-quality results to our clients with speed and flexibility.   

Martijn Van Herk

MARTIJN VAN HERK
Head of Pipeline

Martijn’s career started more than two decades ago at a small studio in the Netherlands where he worked on a large variety of projects, ranging from architectural visualizations to music videos. After about 10 years he quit his job to pursue a freelance career.

During the following 8 years he spent most of his time working in broadcast while also starting to take on visual effects work for companies such as Frantic Films, Pixomondo and Prime Focus.

 

In 2015, Martijn joined Industrial Light & Magic as a Generalist Supervisor for Dr. Strange, earning him a VES award for “Best Digital Environment in a Feature Film”. In the years that followed, he worked on a range of projects such as Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther and A Quiet Place.

 

Martijn picked up programming at an early age, writing small programs and games on his Commodore 64 in the early eighties and has, over the course of his career, worked with a wide range of programming languages, from ActionScript to PHP to Python and  C++.
